How does the school work?

School subjects, schedules and activities depend on the school level of your child.
The 1st cycle has a curricular component, other activities and curriculum enrichment activities, being optional.
The 2nd cycle has subject areas: Languages and Social Studies; Mathematics and Sciences; Artistic Education and Technology and complementary offer, created by the school.
The 3rd cycle, has subject areas related with languages; humanities and social sciences; Mathematics and Physical and Natural Sciences; Expressions and Technologies, and complementary offer, created by the school.

In the 1st cycle, students have 25 hours of lessons per week. Classes can be displaced in a splitting system, mornings or afternoons, or in a normal schedule. It is the network that has to analyze the situation and propose a superior approval.
It is not allowed for parents to choose the time schedule of their children. However, they can indicate the schedule and school preference, and if possible, sit will be respected.
In the 2nd, 3rd cycle and secondary school, the schedule can be predominantly in the morning, in the afternoon or distributed throughout the day.

The public teaching and education institution that includes a pre-school and a primary school define the rules to be observed in the operating period of the respective institutions, as well as the offer of entertainment activities and family support (AAAF), family support service (CAF) and curriculum enrichment activities (AEC).
It is considered AAAF the set of activities destined to guarantee the monitoring of the students of the pre-school before or after the daily educational activities and during the periods of interruption of those activities.
It is considered CAF the set of activities destined to guarantee the monitoring of the students of the primary school before or after the intra-curricular and extra-curricular component, as well as during the periods of school interruption.
CAF is implemented by the local Councils, parents' associations, private institutions of social solidarity or other entities that promote this kind of social answer, through an agreement with the school networks or independent schools.
AEC in primary school are educational and training activities that focus in learning the English language or other foreign language and some areas of sport, artistic, scientific, technical and  information and communication technologies, connecting to the school  with environmental and citizenship education. Once the registration is made, educational heads compromise that their learners will attend to AEC until the end of the school year, concerning respect by the attendance duty in the Student Status  and School Ethic.

In primary school there is only one teacher for each class. He schedules an hour every two weeks to speak with the parents. Parents or the educational responsible can talk also with the teacher before or after school time. If prefer, can also schedule an appointment in the school registration book.
In 2nd and 3rd cycles and secondary school each class has several teachers. Contact is made, preferably, with the Class Director. In these meetings, parents and Class Director exchange information about school, classes, students’ behavior and achievements.
If you can´t speak with the Class Director at the day and hour scheduled, ask for another appointment. In case it is impossible to speak with the Class Director at the day and hour scheduled, ask him how you can contact him, is case of need.

In the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles whenever a parent has a worry or urgent need, he/she should speak with the teacher. Can do it face-to-face, telephone or still through a message in the school registration book.
In primary school, parents can speak with teachers before or after school time. But, the teachers have an hour available every two weeks to receive the parents.

Most primary schools and pre-school from the public system are merged with schools networks that have canteens. Students have access to meal tickets, whether full paid or given by SASE.

The school board will answer to your questions and know how to send you to other entities, if necessary.

Yes, at any time. Talk to the school board and ask any information you think is necessary.
