How to obtain a residence visa for a research or highly qualified activity?

A residence visa is granted for a scientific research to third-States nationals who have been accepted as higher education students at doctorate level or as researchers cooperating in a Research Centre recognised by the Ministry of Education and Science.
It is necessary:
  • Work promise-contract or work contract; or
  • Written offer or service contract; or
  • Scientific research scholarship.
It is still granted a residence visa for a teaching activity at a higher education institution or a highly qualified activity to third-States nationals who possess:
  • Work promise-contract or work contract; or
  • Service agreement.
The deadline to be delivered the opinion about the request of the visa is 30 days. After that the absence of issuance corresponds to a favourable opinion.

Yes. The fact of having a residence visa does not mean that the SEF will grant to you, necessarily, the residence authorization. There are other conditions that must be met.
