Can I apply for higher education?

Through the general regime, the students who meet the necessary conditions may apply for enroll in a particular degree and institution of higher education in 2015.
To apply, students must meet all the following requirements:
 
  • Having successfully completed a secondary degree in the conditions for further study, if any, or be holder of a legally equivalent qualification;
  • Having taken the entrance examinations set for the institution / degree pair and having obtained in these tests the same or higher than the minimum required classification;
  • Meet the prerequisites if they are set for the institution / degree pair;
  • Have an application grade equal or above the minimum value set for the institution / degree pair;
  • With the approval of the International Student Statute, through Decree-Law No. 36/2014, of March 10, as amended by Decree-Law No. 113/2014 of 16 July, a special contest was created to access to higher education for international students, which should join the Portuguese higher education exclusively by this new form.
Thus, through the statutory scheme, the following may apply:
  • Portuguese citizens;
  • The citizens of a European Union Member State;
  • Citizens who are not national of an EU Member State, legally resident in Portugal for over two years, uninterruptedly, on August 31 of the year of application, as well as children living with them, and the residency time for study is irrelevant for this purpose.
 
Besides the general regime and the special schemes, there are special competitions for applicants with certain specific qualifications thus enabling the access to higher education to new audiences in a learning logic throughout life.
 
For adults over 23 years, the approval of specially designed tests designed to evaluate the ability for attending higher education is required.
Holders of a technological specialization degree (post-secondary non-tertiary degree) may also apply.
 
Entrance to each higher education institution is subjected to numerus clausus.
 
 
The entrance tests that are required for each degree are set by each institution of higher education for each of their degrees and cannot generally be greater in number than two. There may be alternative sets of exams, up to a maximum of three.
Each student must complete the entrance exams for higher education institutions for degrees that you want to compete.
The entrance tests required for each higher education degree in each educational institution are disclosed on the website of General Directorate of Higher Education, through Guides of Entrance Examinations (already available) and Guides Application
 
  • They may apply for admission to the second cycle of studies leading to a Master's Degree:
  • Holders of Bachelor’s Degree or legal equivalent;
  • Holders of a foreign academic degree that is recognized as meeting the goals of a degree by the Scientific Council of the higher education institution to which they wish to be admitted to;
  • Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity to accomplish this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the higher education institution to which they wish to be admitted to.
 
The following may apply for entry into graduate studies leading to PhD:
  • Holders of master's degree or legal equivalent;
  • Bachelor’s degree holders in possession of a relevant academic or scientific curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity to accomplish this cycle of studies by the legal and statutorily competent scientific body of the university they wish to be admitted to;
  • Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity to accomplish this cycle of studies by the legal and statutorily competent scientific body of the university they wish to be admitted to.
 
The academic PhD degree shall have a final classification pursuant to the regulating standards approved by the university that grants it.
 
Students who have registered and enrolled in a foreign higher education institution may require the degree transfer or change into a degree defined as greater than the law of the country concerned, that have completed or not.
To this end, it should drive up the academic services of the higher education institution, where he intends to transfer or change degree in order to make their application and information on this contest.
