Which is the validity of the «EU blue card» and when should I request its renewal?

The «EU blue card» has an initial validity of a year, renewable for successive periods of two years. The renewal of this card must be request by the applicant up to 30 days before the expiration date.
The renewal of the «EU blue card» is only dismissed when cumulatively:
  • The holder fulfils and continues to fulfill the condition of entrance and residence or when he maintains the conditions that allowed the issuance of the document;  
  • The holder has enough means of subsistence, in the terms defined in the decree, without applying to support from the social security, excluding the unemployment allowance;
  • He was not convicted of any crime in a penalty or penalties that, isolated or cumulatively, exceed a year of prison;  
  • Do not raise any issues of public order, public security or public health.
