What is a Health Centre and its services?

A Health Centre is the basic service of the National Health Service (NHS) to attend and provide health care to the population. The Health Centre is the first door you should knock when you need medical care.
In a Health Centre you meet family doctors and general practitioners, public health doctors (health delegates) and nurses, who provide essential health care, preventive and healing. Apart from the administrative personnel, in some Health Centres there are also other professionals working - social service technicians, psychologists, nutritionists, oral hygienists and environmental health technicians.
 
What is the schedule?
In general every day from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Some Health Centres are working with extended schedule and open on weekends to attend emergencies.
Some services (consultations, vaccinations and injections) are available at specific times.
 
What kind of services can be given in a Health Centre?
In a Health Centre the following services can be presented:
  • General and family medicine appointments;
  • Child and youth health appointments;
  • Maternal health appointments;
  • Family planning appointments;
  • Voluntary pregnancy termination appointments;
  • Health care service;
  • Nursing appointments;
  • Nursing care;
  • Social services;
  • Vaccinations;
  • Supplementary diagnosis tests
  • Long stay units (in some cases);
  • Home appointments and support;
  • User’s office
  • Emergency situation attendance.
