Of what consists the short stay Visa?

This visa aims to allows its holder the entry in Portugal for purposes that, being accepted by the competent authorities, do not justify the grant of another kind of visa, namely for the purpose of traffic, tourism and visit or accompanying family members who hold a temporary stay visa.
The short stay visa can be granted with a validity term (period of use) that can for up to one year, with one or more entries, not being possible that one uninterrupted stay or the total length of the successive stays, overcome 90 days per period of 180 days from the date of the first  crossing of an external border.
The short stay visas are only granted to nationals of third States that fulfil the following conditions:
  • Who have not been subject to an order to leave the country and for which the period of prohibition of reentry into Portuguese territory has not yet expired;
  • Who are not the subject of an alert issued by any of the Contracting Parties in the Schengen Information System for the purpose of refusing entry;
  • Who are not the subject of an alert issued in SEF's Integrated Information System for the purpose of refusing entry;
  • Who have sufficient resources; 
  • Who are in possession of a valid travel document;
  • Who are in possession of a travel insurance;
  • Who are in possession of a ticket that insures their return.
The application for visa must be accompanied by:
  • Objective evidence of the intended stay;
  • Proof of the conditions of the intended stay.
