- The foreigner resident that was subject of a coercive retirement or of a decision of expulsion from the national territory ;
- Has given based on false or misleading declarations, false or forged documents or through the use of fraudulent means;
- When there are serious reasons to believe that its holder has committed severe crimes or are real evidences that he aims to do act of this nature, namely, at the national territory of EU;
- For reasons of public or security order.
- The residence permit may equally be canceled when the applicant, without plausible reasons, leaves the country;
- Holds a temporary residence permit for 6 consecutive months or with 8 months interpolated, in the total period of the residence validity;
- Holds a permanent residence permit, 24 months in a row or for a period of 3 years, 30 months interpolated. Sendo titular de uma autorização de residência permanente, 24 meses seguidos ou, num período de 3 anos, 30 meses interpolados.
- The absence besides the limits above mentions may be justified by submitting a request to SEF before the resident leaves the national territory or, in exceptional cases, after he has left already.
- The resident permit is not canceled to citizens that are away for periods over the above mentions when they prove that, during the absence from the national territory, where in their country of origin where they have performed a professional or business activity or of cultural or social nature.
